The Healing Power of Nature: Why You Should Try Forest Bathing Right Now?

Forest Bathing

Incorporating more wildlife into urban architecture has a major positive impact on everyone’s mental health.

Forest bathing, which is the straightforward practice of being peaceful and quiet amid trees while taking in the surrounding scenery and taking deep breaths, may help young people reduce stress and improve their health and well-being, according to a recent study by researchers at the University of Waterloo.

Yoku means “to bathe,” and shirin means “forest.” Although the majority of Japanese people live in cities, many are venturing into densely forested forests to experience the restorative and revitalising benefits of shinrin-yoku, a term that was first used in 1982 by the director of the Japanese Forest Agency, who proposed that “bathing” in greenery had significant health benefits for those who regularly practised it. It eases tension and calms the mind.

In one research, half of the hospital patients were assigned to rooms with big windows overlooking the forest, while the other half were given rooms without any windows. Patients who had views of greenery recovered faster.
